Attachment of the interior lining material to the steel framing members is made with non-metallic
fasteners.

The double wall shall house and conceal steel framing members, attaching brackets and remote operating service fixture valves. The exterior side panels of the superstructure are constructed of 18 gauge steel and are removable for access into the interior housing. Access may also be gained through removable panels in the interior liner.

Each superstructure shall have an internal baffle system of the same material as the interior liner. This baffle system shall provide for safe efficient removal of fumes when the superstructure is connected to a properly installed exhaust system. A manual adjustment is provided on the upper part of the baffle to allow the operator to set the Fume Hood for heavy or light fumes.

All baffles are removable for cleaning. Unless specified for use in variable air volume (VAV) system, the superstructures shall be provided with an air bypass feature. The bypass, located at the upper front interior of the Hood, shall open as the sash is lowered, providing for a relatively constant exhaust volume of the Fume Hood superstructure.

When specified, the upper front exterior panel of the superstructure can be furnished with louvers. The louvers provide for proper operation of the bypass feature when the top of the superstructure is closed off to the ceiling.

Click here to learn more about our Fume Hoods.

Product Spotlight: Water Purification Systems

In the laboratory, tap water is not pure enough for experimental use. Analytical researchers are commonly concerned with elements and compounds in the parts per billion range. Life science research is often very sensitive to many contaminates, particularly heavy metals and dissolved organics. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) requires ultra pure water for calibration of detector base lines and elution of reverse phase columns. Trace element analysis requires water, which is free of the elements being examined.

Purification Methods:
* Deionization
* Reverse osmosis
* Activated carbon filtration
* Organic consumption
* Micro-porous filtration
* Ultraviolet oxidation

For more information on laboratory products, please visit our site!

Carbon Nanotubes Turn Office Paper into Batteries

Plain white office paper could be the basis for efficient batteries. Scientists have converted sheets of them into efficient electrical storage devices using ink loaded with carbon nanotubes. This new spin on an ancient invention is the latest in a line of research striving to incorporate paper into batteries to reduce their weight, one of battery technology's major shortcomings.

To trim weight, researchers have tried several approaches, including the use of thin films of materials laid down as inks. The appeal of paper for centuries—its porous microscopic structure, which makes it ideal for holding onto inks—now intrigues researchers for modern applications, not to mention that paper is also a flexible, lightweight, affordable, well-established technology that is used everywhere and could be made from renewable sources.

To devise the novel paper batteries, materials scientist Yi Cui of Stanford University and his colleagues coated plain copy paper with black ink made with single-walled carbon nanotubes, which are electrically conductive pipes only billionths of a meter wide. Positive and negative electrodes—cathodes and anodes—were then applied as slurries dried on the nanotube-impregnated paper. (The cathodes were made from lithium manganese oxide nanorods, and the anodes made either from nanopowders of lithium titanium oxide or nanowires with cores of carbon covered with shells of silicon.) Click Here to Read the Full Article

Industrial Clients

Interested in learning success stories LOC Scientific had with past clients?
